External Transcript Evaluation

Evaluation process

While your evaluation request is in-progress, see an academic counselor for course planning and registration.

Napa Valley College does not require official transcripts from external institutions to be submitted as a condition of admissions to the college.

External college transcripts are not automatically evaluated for acceptance of transfer credits. Students must request a transcript evaluation from the Admissions and Records Office.

We accept coursework from colleges and universities that are Institutionally accredited by the following agencies:

  • Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC)
  • Higher Learning Commission (HLC), formerly North Central Association of Colleges and Schools
  • Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU)

  • Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE)
  • New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Commission on Institutions of Higher Education (NEASC-CIHE)
  • WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC)

Note: The accrediting agencies above were formerly known as U.S. regional accrediting agencies.

Transcript evaluation is not required before registering for classes with prerequisites. A completed evaluation does not guarantee prerequisite clearance.

To register for courses that have prerequisites which you may have completed at an external institution, submit a prerequisite equivalency petition for registration clearance.

  •  (To be used before a Registration Period)
  •   (Must include section information and unofficial transcript with your name and institution visible- To be used during Registration Period)

All external transcripts must be submitted to process evaluation requests.

On the request form you will need to choose the major and general education pattern you will be pursuing. For out of state, private, and dated coursework, course syllabi may be required.

Admissions & Records will be transitioning transcript evaluation responsibilities to a new Analyst on October 5.

Transcript evaluations are currently processed in approximately 8–10 weeks. Processing times may vary depending on the volume of requests, the complexity of the evaluation, and whether all required official transcripts have been received.
Requests are generally processed in the order received, with priority given when an evaluation is needed for graduation or another time-sensitive enrollment need.
You will be notified when your evaluation has been completed. Submitting multiple requests will not expedite processing and may cause delays, so please do not submit a duplicate request while your evaluation is pending.

Once your evaluation request is finalized, you will receive a completed form via DocuSign.

If you are applying for graduation, please continue working with your counselor and submit your graduation application by the applicable deadline. You do not need to wait for your transcript evaluation to be completed before submitting a graduation application.

Thank you for your patience while Admissions & Records completes your evaluation.
